The author of this site trained and practices in electronics, software and TV. He is an author and has successfully set up and run his own company with a partner, but not without problems and mistakes on the way!

Over the past 25 years, he has tried to manage the fun and conflicts of family and business life with good humour and an unshakeable belief that good engineers should be able to be good businessman as well..

The site tries to encourage engineers to read and understand the world of business, rather than teaching from the start, how to do the technical side of business, like profit and loss accounts etc..

Exclusive Club

The site in particular is here to encourage engineers to do it for themselves.. Its an exclusive club. One engineering megastar is Isambard Kingdom Brunel did it for himself. But most of the club members have had problems financially. IKB went bankrupt. But don't let that put you off. This web site contains a few pointers that might help make fewer bad money decisions.

The money people might think they are the main men, but no one rembers them.. The ideas people are the heroes.. Have the ideas and just do it, mistakes or otherwise.. but do it.. These pages are here to try and help you do it without the same hardship and mistakes as others..

There are (or soon will be) links where you can find the technical business information, explained by persons much better qualified at that than me! The strength of this site is to get the ball rolling for professionals who want to get the feel of the business issues without initially getting bogged down in the technicalities.

My slowness to get into business knowledge and thinking was partly because I did not have time or the inclination to study business from the theoretical side. I wanted a more hands on, fast track approach. So, this site is different in its approach to Business for engineers in that it goes straight into encouraging engineers to get familar with some advantages of business knowledge, and then directs them to where they can gain more detailed knowledge.

And it is from the perspective, that 'engineers can become good business people', that this web site has been set up. It is intended to give engineers information, advice and support on setting up in business for themselves. The fun and excitement of running your own business, making your products or selling your services is an experience well worth the effort.. in my opinion..

Books to read - mostly fun and easy to get into

I use the word engineer, but the site should help scientists, mathematicians and anyone who has a similarly wired mind..

At times, the humour and confidence have failed him, but the support and encouragement from wife, family and close business friends have helped get back on the roller coaster again..

And from all this, there is now a focus and confidence that more and more engineers can also do it for themselves, hopefully more easily..
